MISS DELAWARE TEEN USA 2008
Bethany Brindley

Age: 18
Hometown: Wilmington

Where do you attend school, and what are you studying?:
I am a senior at Brandywine High School in Wilmington taking a mix of honors and AP classes all in preparation for college.

Future educational goals:
I plan to attend the University of Delaware and then dental school as I plan to be a dentist.

What is your career ambition, and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?:
I plan to work very hard in college so that I can get into dental school, and one day fulfill my dream of becoming a dentist. I had a great opportunity last summer to be an intern at a local dentist office; I plan to do that again this summer to take in as much information as I can before college.

Why did you choose this field?
I choose this field because I feel someone’s smile can give them confidence and self esteem. I would love to do something positive to change someone’s life.

Extracurricular activities:
I am very active in school! I am a Varsity Cheerleader for football and basketball, I serve on Student Government and the Student/Principal Liaison Committee and the spirit committee, I am the Sports Editor of the Yearbook, I am a Student Aide for 9 th grade English classes and I served as a Class officer during my freshman and Sophomore years.

 Community Service work:
I served as a High School Coordinator for the Blood Bank of Delaware and helped to run and organize bi-annual blood drives at Brandywine High School. I also planned a book drive to help a community center start a library, and to my surprise, collected over 16,000 books! I am a team captain for Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society and I have participated in a clinic for the Girl Scouts.

Awards and accomplishments:
I am an Honor Roll Student at BHS, and was awarded the “Top Dog” Award at BHS by the principal, and award given to only a few students who are positive role models in the school community. I also received a scholarship to study at Orlando Ballet, and was a top ten finalist in the “Delaware Teen Idol” competition, an event to spotlight teens for all the right reasons.

Who are your role models?:
Laura Bush, because she has established several special reading education programs as First Lady and a former educator. I have been very involved in community reading programs and truly value the importance of reading education and there are many children who could benefit from additional support.

In what ways are you a role model for your peers?:
I feel I am a good role model because I have tried to establish good relationships with all types of people, I am very involved in positive activities throughout the school like student leadership and community service, and I maintain good grades, and good values.

What are your hobbies?:
I have been studying Ballet, tap and jazz since I was three at Anna Maries’s Dance Studio in Wilmington . I have studied several summers with the Orlando Ballet in Florida and have taken classes in New York and L.A. Last year I represented the state of Delaware at the International Dance Excellence Festival in LA, California . I also love to shop, watch movies, and play with my dog, Bailey.

 Do you have any siblings?:
I have an older sister – Jenna. She is also my best friend!

Interesting or unique facts about you and your family:
Along with my family, I have visited Disneyworld 22 times, and consider myself an expert on the parks (my favorite ride is Test Track)! I spent this past summer as an intern at a dental office and had an unbelievable experience. I also teach Ballet and Tap to six year olds at my studio. I secretly love to dance and leap down the long aisles in the supermarket when no one is around!!!

Favorite way to spend a day:
Relaxing on the beach

Three wishes: A new car (specifically a red 325i BMW!), an endless shopping spree, and to live happy and healthy life.

First Thought when you heard your name called :
Total disbelief that it was my name!!

Expectations for the year:
I hope I can travel the state and meet many new people, I hope I can help as many charities and organizations with their efforts as possible and I hope I can inspire kids and teens in Delaware to dream big and be a success in school and in life. I also hope that with hard work I can achieve a new personal goal when I compete at the Miss Teen USA pageant this year.
